It was their tradition; a not-so-secret encounter that both fables did at least once a month when the weather contributed for their gathering and both workaholic red-haired were off from their respective jobs as a way to easy themselves from the stress of the season and have the sisterly moments Katherine held so close to her heart. The older looked forward for any of their bounding times, but that one was special for them.
After all, Jihyun was the one who taught Soojung how to ice skate in the first place, it was quite adorable how no matter how much time had passed when it was cold enough for the small lake hidden in the fabletown to freeze, both women decided it was time to get the ice skate and take a little time off the world to enjoy the best thing the winter could offer.
“You need help with those, sweet Soojung-ah?” The older asked as she finished tying up the laces of her skates, taking small steps to walk towards the younger sitting on the floor and kneeling down in front of her to finishing lacing the mermaid’s ice skate. “It’s good like that?” She asked with a soft smile dancing across her lips.
Kate got up and bowed playfully but politely as always as she stands out her hand for the younger girl. “Princess first.” She laughed softly, placing her delicate hand over Soojung’s to help the younger to stand again.
It was New Year’s Eve. Isn’t it time to spend with the family and friends? This year, the mermaid had decided to do both – and there wasn’t a better person than doing so than with Jihyun.
It wasn’t actually planned no – the original plan was simply to enjoy the Snow Queen’s temper and constant “blessed” snow blizzards – but the work would always get in between. Extra shifts for the doctor, homework and volunteer job for the waitress. It didn’t matter when it was, it seemed they were always busy and neither the witch or the mermaid had enough time to enjoy their Holidays.
But then the snow was melting against the cold Queen’s wish, and there wasn’t any important duties to be done by the red-haired women, so why not get away a little? It was not like Soojung hasn’t missed Katherine – it was the first sentence said when she met the other, between bright grins and tight hugs as they reached to the hidden lake that had been found mysteriously by the oldest of them.
“Yes, please, Ji.” She smiled at the other’s offer, eyes twinkling and forming beautiful half-moons on her wrinkle-less face. How she enjoyed these times between the two of them – but when she would be able to tie her own skating shoes? That was the question she would ask all the times to the witch, pout plastered on her lips and answer ready: she never would, because simply, she had Jihyun to do it for her and it couldn’t get better than that.
Looking down at the pink-laced shoes, Soojung nods twice to answer the oldest’s question. Her head tilts up at her latter words, and a frown replaces her smile when she starts acting goofy – in such an unnecessary way the mermaid thought she knew how the old Kings felt to be treated like this away from their Homelands.
Still frowning, she reaches behind, placing her hands on the ice to give an impulse to stand up. It fails in the first try, and on the second, the only thing she is able to do is get her hands wet.
The youngest wrinkles her nose and glances back at the other, a mischievous idea passing her as she reaches up and takes her hand with a “Thank you, Milady~”, only before she tugs down on the shortest’s hand and pulls her down so she could fall into her and on the ice once again. “That’s what you get for trying to be my chaperon instead of my sister!”
